My Students

The students we service are K-8 children from inner-city Detroit, MI. Our students are energetic, and enthused about learning and being connected to their school community. As an EL school, we value character success as much as we value academic success. Students are explicitly taught, and held accountable for the following "Habits of Character" (school-wide values): Compassion, Integrity, Curiosity and Creativity, Responsibility, and Perseverance. This transformational work has positively impacted the culture and climate of the school community.

We foster well-rounded students through intentional character education; this project will provide the school's staff with additional tools to motivate our students to realize their fullest potential inside and out.

My Project

As we navigate the challenges of virtual learning, we have worked hard to maintain as much normalcy as possible within our classrooms. As a result, our students are still energetic, and inquisitive, and are excited to learn, even on zoom!

Our teachers are learners too; and we are looking forward to learning more about how to increase and maintain student engagement and motivation as a staff.

Providing a hard copy of the book "Drive" by Daniel H. Pink will be valuable to our school community because it focuses on theories and strategies about organizational structures that support intrinsic motivation and foster engagement.
