I teach at a public school. The school is made up of approximately 180 students, grades PreK-8. The majority of the students come from low socioeconomic households. I coach middle school girls basketball. My team consist of 12 girls who try their absolute best to be the best the can be. We usually compete against teams who have more opportunities and equipment to improve their basketball skills than we do. This does not stop my team from trying their hardest!
Many of my players do not have a backpack or bag to carry their basketball gear in to and from practice and games. Most of the teams we play against have matching backpacks to carry their belongings in. I would like my players to have that same opportunity. Giving them each a backpack would help them keep their gear safe and organized. In practice we do not have enough basketballs for each player to have a basketball to work on their ball handling skills individually. We often have to borrow some basketballs from the boys’ team. Getting more basketballs would give my players the chance to work to improve their ball handling skills.
