Every student at Harrowgate Elementary is very special to us!! We are a fully accredited Title I School with 66% of students economically disadvantaged. 169 out of 547 students are reading below grade level as a school which is about 31% of our student population. We seem to be underdogs due to lack of resources (human and capital) and low rate of parent/community involvement. A lot of our students lack educational experiences before entering kindergarten.
The students are eager and excited to compete in our county's STEAMmania!!
Regardless of our economic, social and emotional challenges, we at Harrowgate Elementary believe all students can achieve great things with encouragement, motivation and a strong work ethic. My hope is to provide our students with the opportunity to exceed their own expectations and show Chesterfield County that despite our challenges, we are just as capable at achieving greatness as those with more resources. To help us reach our full potential, I would really like to have our students stand out in a unique way.
My Project
To help us reach our full potential, I would really like to have our students stand out in a unique way. One resource to help showcase our distinctiveness would be to have students show up at STEAMmania wearing lab coats! In my experience as a teacher and former student, when I’m dressed to impress, I gain additional confidence. I am sure our students would feel the same and use this extra self-assurance to work harder to solve the challenges presented to them at STEAMmania. Your support could help positively impact the community’s perception of our school. Most importantly, your help could aid our students in believing, what I already know to be true, that they have the ability to perform just as well as students that have a plethora of resources.
