Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The French Poet Victor Hugo once said, "Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent." Music allows people of all ages to express themselves in ways that they never thought possible. The DSA students deserve to look as beautiful as they sound.
Our public charter school is an eclectic mix of middle and high school students working hard to overcome obstacles and achieve success regardless of their personal situations.
78% of our students qualify for free or reduced meals. We have a 0% drop-out rate and a 100% college acceptance rate. Our dedicated staff takes personal interest in helping our students succeed not only academically but socially and emotionally as well. It is our goal to produce well-balanced, productive young adults that have the tools they need to be responsible, contributing members of society.
As the only full-time music teacher, I understand some students will not have the opportunity to even take an introductory Music Class, since scheduling conflicts will prevent them from doing so. To counter this hindrance, I'm sponsoring an after-school Honor Choir. Economic hardship shouldn't stifle an already depressed generation of students whose artistic scopes are narrowing with decreased arts budgets.
My Project
These donated resources will allow the students to compete in state contests as well as perform in various venues around Oklahoma. We also hope to have an out of state trip which will allow the students to experience life in other states and visit colleges that they didn't even know existed.
The uniforms are truly the gift that keeps on giving as each dress is returned to the music department and used for years to come. Each student deserves the opportunity to look as beautiful as they sing and develop the confidence to find themselves in the difficult world that is High School.
With support from DonorsChoose, the "Dress for Success" program will enable our students to engage in meaningful performances during a crippling survival mode that our regional budget imposes.
These timeless techniques will buttress students' musical repertoires as they perform at senior high level and develop the confidence to seek further musical training.
