About My Students

We are a business themed public high school, in the heart of Queens, NY, the most ethnically and economically diverse place on earth. My students are the kindest, most intelligent, and compassionate people on this planet. They take pride in their work and in their community.

We teach our students that the key to success, for the individual and for the community, is preparedness, hard work, and devotion. To prepare, our students come to school dressed in professional attire, or as we like to call it, a uniform. We know that when a student is dressed for success, they are more likely to fit into that role. However, there are times when families can not provide items such as neck ties and proper shoes for their children. When some of my students observed that their peers come to school unprepared, they were moved to do something about it. They asked me to help them prepare a project with Doors Choose. I quickly agreed. My students volunteer their time at various sites in our community, like hospitals, nursing homes, day cares, libraries, and soup kitchens. Now, they want to help their peers in at their second home, our school. Help us help all students succeed! Help us strengthen our school community, so our students could conto serve our community.

In our school, we take pride in being problem solvers. My student, Victoria, identified the problem to be lack of resources, therefore some students are unprepared to learn. That is not fair. Her compassion and empathy, toward her peers, moved her to create this project. She knows that ones basic needs must be met, if self-actualization is to occur. Her desire to improve our school community, has much larger implications on the students, and society, as a whole. She knows that when students are dressed professionally, they are more comfortable presenting themselves to others, be it for a job interview, college interview, job shadowing opportunity, or community service. By helping a student prepare for the day in high school, you will also help the child prepare for college and careers.

In Their Own Words

Since becoming a student at the Academy of Finance and Enterprise, I've learned the importance of professionalism, and the keys to being successful. My school promotes educational, and ethical growth. However, some students lack the necessary resources. Dress for Success echoes how students and the administration should come together to help one another. I want to help my peers who are less fortunate, those who are missing some basic essentials, that will eventually limit their opportunities.

I plan to lead Dress for Success, with Mrs. Lymberopoulos' help, by sharing the project on social media, and by encouraging my friends, my family and my community to fund the project. Hopefully, the more people know about the project, the more people will contribute towards it. It is important for everyone to know how invested we all are in our school and our community.

Dress for Success is very important to me because not everyone is fortunate enough to support themselves with necessary resources. A lot of people are in need of a helping hand, and I feel it is mine, and my community's responsibility to contribute as best to our ability. Also, by helping me help my peers, you will help my peers to become active members of the community. Thank you for supporting us!
