Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in the heart of San Diego, and our students represent the diverse cultures that inhabit the community of City Heights. Our students come from low socio-economic backgrounds and 100% of them qualify for free/reduced lunch, yet they come to school eager to learn and grow.

Our students face many unique challenges that affect their ability to come to school every day.

A large percentage of our students are refugees escaping violence from their home countries. Many of them have no permanent residence, bouncing between relatives, motels, and/or shelters. The vast majority come from families who are struggling to make ends meet. Our goal is to assist our families and community so that these students can not just survive, but thrive.

My Project

Students who lack stable housing face many challenges outside the classroom, resulting in lower attendance, academic achievement, and feelings of belonging. We want to support these students by providing them each with two sets of clean uniforms (white or light blue collared shirts with navy blue bottoms) to wear throughout the school week. The resources listed were requested specifically by students and parents, and we know exactly who will be receiving each item.

Your contribution will go not only towards clothing, but towards a sense of pride and belonging for our most vulnerable students.

We believe that all students deserve to feel confident, comfortable, and safe at school. Our aim is to alleviate our students' anxiety and worry by providing for their basic needs, freeing them to focus on their learning and education.
