Dreams Still Come True

Help me give my students a personally decorated journal to detail their quarantine experience, and some tasty snacks to help them through the day!

My Students

This has been one of the greatest challenges we as educators have ever faced. The daily postings, modifications, Google Meet chats, messages, e-mails.... all of us trying to replicate what had in the classroom... and it's completely impossible. Our classroom was the most vibrant space where ideas were shared and dreams came true.

My students are the true heroes in all of this.

Fourth graders, manipulating websites, entering classroom codes, submitting projects and giving this virtual learning thing their absolute best shot. Some of them are watching younger siblings, monitoring their progress, others have sick family members in the house who must quarantine in other parts of where they live. Space is generally tight. With 85% of our students living at or below the poverty line, there are no thrills or joys in their days. That was what school was.... the glue that held them all together.

My goal is to help them shine, see the good, continue to dream and find a greater purpose to their day. This project aims to do just that, put a smile on their faces and a give them a hope for tomorrow.

My Project

I have such an incredible group of students this year. They have worked so hard to achieve greatness in the classroom and my heart hurts that our time together was cut short. This project would make a difference in their virtual distance educational experience because I know they are giving their learning everything they can from a distance and would be overjoyed to open these sweet surprise packages!

These students have continued to be fourth grade rockstars!

My goal for this project is to give them a space they can personalize and make their own as they document their daily dreams, feelings, and aspirations. They are pushing themselves to understand and rise to the challenge of what is asked of them. I could not be more proud of them. We are planning a neighborhood drive through soon and I would love to be able to give each child a bag with their notebook to personalize and some terrific goodies to munch on. With 40 students, this is a challenging goal, but I'm sure it can be done!
