No one can resist a drum! Little fingers dream of tapping and hitting and wiggling on a real drum, but we don't have any to play! Every year, the students come in asking what instruments we will use, and every year, they are disappointed when drums are not on the list.
Our students are kind, hardworking kids from the community around our school.
Most receive free or reduced lunches because they come from low-income families. Most also love coming to school each week to the tough-but-tender staff at our school. The teachers and administrators push the students hard, but are always there with hugs and kind words to keep them going. Our students respond very well to positive reinforcement, and what better reward in the music room than playing a fun, new instrument!
My Project
Let's face it, drums are expensive. Drums are also exciting, able to make a variety of unique sounds, and great for teaching rhythm and team work. Through drum circles, our students can learn about the culture of Africa and working together to make beautiful music. We have quite a few African and Middle Eastern immigrants, and these drums would help them connect with their culture and feel comfortable here at our school. We do have some instruments that we admire and learn their names and sounds, but are unable to play because we don't have enough mallets. The mallets will help us better use the instruments we already have at the school. We are very fortunate to have a bin full of tone blocks...but with only 10 mallets, not every student can play. Please help us use the resources we already have so they are not wasted!
Instruments and mallets would impact our students forever!
Help us make beautiful sounds, while learning about rhythm and the cultures that created each drum. You can touch the lives of hundreds of students every year with a small donation!
