This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students of our community are some of the most tenacious young people I have ever worked with. Despite many setbacks and various obstacles, they are full of hope, full of passion, and determined to grow personally. I have been blessed to see them grow as leaders, both inside and outside of the classroom.

My students are aware of the high barriers and society's low expectations for them, and they're not intimidated.

With huge hearts and curious minds, I know they will have a tremendous impact on their community and the next generation.

My Project

Almost 2 months into the school year, and so many students have asked me if I had any books they could read. Unfortunately, my classroom library is almost nonexistent.

Students are hungry for knowledge, hungry to understand, and they are hungry to connect with others.

I want them to use books to meet this need. Our world today can seem void of empathy and overrun with selfish ambition. My students are ready and willing to dream with their eyes open: discover life's conflicts and dream about solutions.

Books such as To Kill a Mockingbird, The Hate You Give, and Freak the Mighty are a few stories that I'm sure will provoke my students to think outside of the box and teach them life lessons that cannot be unlearned.
