My Students
This year my district is starting the school year off with distance learning! I teach at a low-income urban school and most of my students are performing below grade-level. Despite this, I am up for the challenge of this new platform and so far we are all thriving!
My students are doing very well with virtual learning, they're trying very hard to learn to navigate the digital world!
They love being competitive at the end of each lesson - they're also great at utilizing teamwork and positive talk when participating in class!
Regardless of the challenges, my class is full of smiles and laughs! Now we just need some supplies to keep them having fun while they learn!
My Project
I have a school-issued laptop I use for class, and teaching virtually is sometimes a bit of a challenge because of how well it works (or, doesn't). I often have issues with tabs refreshing and stalling out in the middle of teaching. My computer can't handle sharing videos of any kind without serious lag or other sound issues occurring. This does affect how well I can teach a class or choose what resources or platforms to use while teaching. Also, it can at times take over 20 minutes to sign into the start screen because it is just frozen. I try my best to keep my tabs at a manageable level, I have the highest-grade wifi I can get, but still, I have these issues. Some colleagues swear by a MacBook, which I could only dream of using, and could definitely never afford on my own.
