Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a multitude of cultural backgrounds and have varying learning styles. I am lucky to be able to accommodate students with diverse learning needs, giving them access to rigorous, differentiated science instruction.

My students are so excited about science.

Our curriculum includes a lot of inquiry-based learning, and they are thriving with all the hands-on exploration they get to do. One of my students actually said to me "I was never really into science before. I mean, it was ok, but I was never really engaged before." They all deserve to continue to experience science as being FOR them.

My Project

We all know that students will need strong technological skills to succeed in STEM and other careers in the future. I want to give my students a foundation for this success. Having computers available every day also helps with issues of equitable access to science education for diverse learners and English language learners. Already the first set of 4 laptops are helping these students access the curriculum through assistance with writing, reading, and taking notes. Once we have 7 computers, each student group will be able to use a computer during group activities and lessons.

More and more science instruction is happening online, and in order to leverage these resources, my students need computers!

Our school does not yet have the resources to provide each classroom with a set of computers, and many students do not have reliable technology at home. Please help me increase my students' access to technology, improving their chances for a bright future in STEM!
