Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the most amazing students ever. They have the most grit and grind than any students out there. Last year they were put through the wrath of Hurricane Harvey and still persisted to come out on top and prove that they could overcome anything and scored the highest STAAR and MAP scores they have ever had. This year I am working to develop my students understanding about their bodies and how they can express themselves through movement and dance. I am focusing on bringing quality technique to students that would not otherwise be exposed to this due to their community being underserved.
My Project
Providing ballet barres in my classroom will help my students improve on their dance technique immensely. I have noticed that bringing in extra resources have helped my students improve on their dancing skills. For example, using a scientific skeleton to teach anatomy helped my students improve their dance technique and body awareness. I believe using a barre will have the same positive effect. Ballet barres will allow my students to express themselves through dance. This is a great way for them to channel their feelings and emotions that come about from living in an underserved community where opportunities do not come easily to our students.
