This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
These students live in the urban core. They are energetic, bright and very eager to learn. Many have limited contact with culturally enriching experiences in reading or the fine arts due to financial restraints. Without having solid role models and culturally enriching experiences it is difficult to appreciate what can be achieved in life.
It is our hope is that students will begin to see that there are no limits to what can be achieved with hard work and effort.
My Project
This author grew up in the urban core of the city our students live in. He has lived in the world they are currently growing up in. In spite of the limitations he may have had, he has become an accomplished and award-winning author of books for elementary and middle school children.
This author will visit each elementary class and speak to them about how he worked to achieve his success.
He will read one of his books to the class as well as leave a set of books for each classroom library. He is a shining example of what can be achieved if you try.
