This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are bright, inquisitive, and excited to learn about art. I teach in an urban Title I school. My students range from grades 6 to 8 and they are the best kids. Our school operates on a tight budget and has little to no funding for art. It’s important to me that my students have all the resources they need for class. Our current classroom furniture is old and unsafe.
As their teacher and mentor, nothing would please me more than to just hand students the art supplies they need.
My Project
Students enjoy working with this medium and the product of their art is truly satisfying.
There are many benefits of working with colored pencil.
Our course covers everything from the fundamentals to advanced topics like linear perspective and the figure drawing. For low income schools, colored pencils are an economical medium, and you don’t need many extra supplies. Colored pencil allows students precision, control of detail and depth in their work. They can work lightly for a soft look or with many layers get the effect of oil paint. Colored pencil creates no fumes or chemicals and provided a great safe medium for students.
