Drawing With a Model

My students need 20 wooden anatomical manikins.

Observation comes before imagination... My Art students are 10th and 11th graders, a bit like small fish in a huge sea. We are a mini-school housed on the 3rd floor in an extremely large high school. The neighborhood is not the safest around, and this is a high-needs inner-city community, but our students feel safe in our little corner of the world.

My students love Art class, and I do the best that I can with the supplies I have on hand. They just requested that I teach them how to draw the human figure. Many of them get frustrated because they don't know how to draw.

Luckily, I've got pencils and paper! The students would greatly benefit from having a good-sized anatomical model in front of them. It would give them a model that wouldn't move (normally, I'd be the model!) and it would help them to focus and concentrate, which is needed for observational drawing.

The students always appreciate when they are given opportunities to learn new things. They like to feel like 'real artists.' Your donation will make my students feel like real artists -- drawing from a model -- and I can just imagine the confidence and wonderful work that will come out of the experience of having these wonderful tools in the classroom.
