This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Not all children feel comfortable expressing their feelings verbally. I would like to provide my students with a drawing pad and drawing materials as a form of therapy. Having drawing pads is an alternative to suppressing their feelings and this would have a great impact in the classroom. Drawing helps relieve stress and anxiety. Some of my students have recently learned how art can help them process their emotions.
Art in the classroom can help students strengthen their social-emotional development.
These drawing pads would offer them a safe place to keep their drawings, like a kind of journal or diary. The sketchbooks can also be used to help students cope with stress and anxiety during testing season. My hope is that students will take this helpful tool with them throughout their lives.
