Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in a poverty-stricken, urban neighborhood. Many come from broken and unstable homes. They attend a Title I school and are eligible for free lunch.
Our school's population is made up of African-American, Hispanic, and foreign students, mostly African, Vietnamese, and Kurdish students.
Many of them are learning English as a second language. It is important for them to be able to express themselves through their art. My students love art! They thrive in an artistic environment. They need opportunities to show how creative they can be.
My Project
My students love to color with markers, but sometimes the younger children lose the caps and they dry out to quickly. I have discovered that the Flip Chart Markers don't dry out as easily. They can last over a week after they lose their caps. They also was off of skin and tabletops easily. This is a huge help at clean-up time.
My older students are making a backdrop for a play.
The black Sharpies will be great for outlining the buildings and other parts of the backdrop. These markers and supplies will come in very handy during art class.
