I am the proud teacher of a morning and afternoon class of four-year old kindergarten students. My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and at times it can be difficult to find activities that will reach them all in a meaningful way. They spend their first year in school learning early academics and social-emotional skills to help them be respectful and responsible students.
My four and five year old students learn through a play-based curriculum that allows them to be curious, creative, and conscious in the classroom.
I love teaching the littlest learners in our school! My students are eager to come to school and enthusiastic about discovering and exploring new things. I strive to give my students meaningful experiences to create a love of learning that will stick with them throughout their educational career.
My Project
Dramatic Play is important for little learners to experience because it allows them to actively experiment with the social and emotional roles in life. While "pretend play" requires the use of their imagination, having access to a wide variety of materials and manipulatives ensures that my students, who come from many diverse backgrounds, will have a chance to learn in a hands-on way about things they instead may not have otherwise ever experienced.
My students learn how to problem solve, take turns, build self-esteem, and effectively communicate while playing house or pretending to work in a doctor's office or veterinary clinic.
I have chosen a number of "household" items including play food, cooking utensils, dolls, and dress up clothes. I have also chosen "career" items to give my students the experience of what it might be like to be a doctor, construction worker, or teacher.
