I teach at a close-knit rural school. Pre-K through 12th grade are on one campus together. I have 20 Pre-K children in my classroom experiencing school for the very first time. It is my job to make this the best experience possible for them in order to instill the love of learning! I have students from all backgrounds in my classroom. As an early childhood teacher, I provide hands on ways for my students to experience the process of learning!
Dramatic play in Pre-K is a crucial part of the early childhood learning process! Children need these opportunities to problem solve, make decisions, be creative, and collaborate.
Through dramatic play, my students explore perspectives and roles of others by having the opportunity to act out what they are observing or experiencing in their own lives.
During this type of play they are using oral language, literacy, and numeracy skills.
My students learn through this type of play! They are not "just playing". By giving my students these ethnic baby dolls, I will see them show care giving and empathy skills. I also allow my students access to block play throughout the day. By adding block play people I will again see my students acting out situations they have observed or experienced.
