My students need these dramatic play items and books to learn about different community helpers through play and reading the books. Dramatic play is so important for self-regulation, conflict resolution and emotional health
I have the great honor of teaching in a low income school that has high outcome expectations. Our school has 93% of our children on the free/reduced meal plan, sometimes these children don't have a meal between the time they leave school to when they come back the next day. With their high energy each and every day, we teach through lots of high energy activities.
I absolutely love my job, the students that I work with and the blessings coming this next school year.
They are the reason I get up in the morning and they make me smile and laugh all day. I believe that these kids deserve the very best every single day. They need to know that I love them like my own and that I will take care of them. I absolutely want them to have the best of everything.
The use of dramatic play in my pre-k classroom will enhance the development of my students' social, emotional, physical, cognitive and language areas. I want to be able to change the center at least 6 times throughout the school year, giving my students multiple opportunities to engage in role play of different scenes.
In order for my students to truly benefit from our dramatic play center, I need to "set the stage" as close to real life as possible.
By having costumes and props pertaining to a restaurant, a hospital, an airport, a pizzeria, a doctor's office and more, along with nonfiction books about those community helpers, my students will have an inviting, creative area where they can use their imagination to immediately take on a role and begin pretending.
