My students need dramatic play materials including the Lakeshore Barn to encourage their spontaneous communication as well as to develop language skills such as requesting, responding, basic concepts, direction following, and cooperative play.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students range from tiny 3-year old preschoolers to 14-year old 8th graders who are taller than me but they all have one thing in common: they struggle with some aspects of their communication skills. As part of the special education team, I directly serve students with speech and language needs but I also support the language and early literacy skills of our general education students.
My students are brimming with questions, ideas, and imagination.
Although many of my students face many challenges on a daily basis: approximately 95% of our students are low income and receive free or reduced lunch and 40% of our students are English Language Learners; they are excited to learn and grow!
My Project
Dramatic play is an amazing opportunity for our youngest students to grow and learn communication skills. This kind of play encourages spontaneous speech on a level that can not be matched by memorized sentence patterns or rote responses. I have wanted to build up my dramatic play equipment to support more natural communication of my preschool to 1st grade students.
Your donation to this project will not only bring joy to my students but also the opportunity to increase the spontaneous speech of students with severe communication disabilities.
They will build vocabulary skills; increase the length of their sentences; develop social communication skills necessary in education and life. Equipment that supports and encourages imagination supports both communication and early academic development. I need your help to make these ideas a reality. Thank you so very much!
