Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
During our daily break, the children and I were discussing possible ideas for integrating the arts into our learning. They had many ideas! Some want to perform a play. Others want to make props and puppets to retell a story.
The students in my classroom are great and are eager to get started on the next project.
Most are economically disadvantaged and lack many things. However, they do strive for excellence. They have been extremely busy preparing for upcoming tests. Right now is a perfect time to begin some creative and exciting learning activities.
My Project
The Great Kapok Tree book will be used to generate interest in our resources and conserving them. The children will use the felt to make animal puppets to retell the story or create their own story. They will relate what they have learned about conserving our natural resource and present their findings on the boards. For the story Mufaro's Daughters, the children will again retell the story using the felt and glue guns to create puppets. They will analyze character traits and draw conclusions about how Mufaro's daughters reacted to each encounter on their journey to meet the prince. Students will perform a play to act out the encounters and discuss it. The remainder of the project boards will be used to present the children's analysis of Mufaro's Daughters.
If you have ever had to prepare for testing, then you can relate with my students.
They have been preparing for testing, so fun learning activities have been very limited. Your help can bring fun puppet drama related activities back to learning. If you love to see children laugh and smile and enjoy learning in a fun filled way, then this is the project for you. So take a chance and help bring the fun back to learning.
