My students live in a high risk area and are faced with the challenge of getting to school let alone reaching proficiency in their academics.
My students are in a 3rd grade multicultural classroom, primarily Hispanic and African American students.
They are outgoing, excited and willing to learn. To them, school is a safe and inviting environment, where they can explore, grow and be cared for. Their school is a 100% free or reduced lunch and breakfast (Title I).
My Project
The Drama Club that I have created for 3rd-5th graders is based on enhancing and improving students literacy skills such as memorization, fluency, accuracy, comprehension, and listening. It also provides an opportunity for my students to build character, team work and social skills. Having these resources will greatly benefit my students lives now and in the future. These supplies will give my students an opportunity to receive brand new materials that are their very own. The weekly readers through Scholastic as well as the audio books will be used for comprehension, plays, writing and mentor texts. The paint supplies will be used to help us create a more effective theater environment by having student created authentic backdrops and scenes. The digital camera will allow us to document and share performances that students can revisit and celebrate with.
This project will provide my students with important social skills and experiences that will help them continue educational growth through their years of school, and it will also help prepare them to be a 21st century learner.
