Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There are many great things going on at our school. We have music classes where students learn to play instruments. We participate in coding competitions. We focus on STEAM/STEM along with teaching students using AVID strategies.

As a teacher of students who come from situations that are beyond their control, I push them to persevere and be the best that they can be despite their situations.

Some of my students are either homeless or live in motels or crowded single rooms. Some of my students are responsible for caring for their younger siblings as their parents work long hours. Regardless of their situations, they come to school, try their hardest, and learn.

Living close to a popular tourist attraction, many of my students and their families are unable to go because they can’t afford it. Our school is a Title I-funded school where the majority of the students receive free or reduced-price lunches. We are currently participating in distance learning.

My Project

For this project, I am requesting a timer finish gate for our CO2 dragster. We are going to incorporate science and math. Students will be building their CO2 dragster and will race it. The only thing we need is a finish gate with a timer. By having one, they will be able to calculate the speed and determine the rate. Then they will adjust their car, using their understanding of energy and friction, to make their car go faster and smoother. This activity will be an accumulation of all they have learned.
