Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Entering the school-year my students are already facing hardships. They come from low-income households and many struggles.
This year will be different because we are all dealing with the same issue, a world pandemic, I want my students to feel loved and cared for.
Wearing masks all day, and not being able to work in class normally seems to take a toll on the students, as well as the teachers.
As a dual-language self-contained fourth-grade teacher, there are so many things I wish I could do for my students. I like to provide them with a fun and comfortable learning environment where they can feel safe. However, lack of funds creates a barrier that is going to be a challenge for me. I have bright students and want them to get the most out of my classroom whether it is virtual or in person. I want to help provide them with something nice to brighten their holidays.
My Project
During these times my students have a lot to deal with. Wearing a mask all day, while having to social distance and still work hard to learn is stressful for everyone. We have already purchased 90 - 18in stockings that I will personalize with their name using my Cricut machine and vinyl. The stocking will be filled with goodies and snacks to show our students that not everything is going wrong.
Receiving these care stockings is going to help support our students' emotional and mental health, and that will motivate them to continue to work hard in school.
Right now our students have a lot to deal with and many are worried about COVID, loved ones in the hospital, and family deaths. We want to see our students' faces light up when they get a little ray of hope this holiday season. Our whole fourth grade team will be working together to make this happen.
