This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a middle school reading teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I teach students who are low in reading to bring them up to their correct level. I also teach one class of honors students who are trying to better themselves and get high school credits done early. They are hardworking students who have had some gaps in their education and have difficult home lives.
My Project
I would like to provide my students with a Dragon's Den area to be comfortable to make reading fun!
Dragons need to be comfortable to read!
This area will be used an incentive to get my students to experience new books in such a phone driven society!
I try to make my room as home like as possible to make the students want to come to my environment and open their minds to new ideas! This area will continue that feel and give them something to work for in our silent reading program! I want them to read for enjoyment not just because it checks a box on a test!
