Help me give my students an out of the box way of reviewing their knowledge of the Parts of Speech using Dr. Suess books during Read Across America week.
Welcome to my 6th-grade classroom! I teach at a Title I school where approximately 85% of the students at our school receive free or reduced price lunch, and many come from single parent, low income households.
My classroom is very culturally diverse, and I have several students in my class who speak English as a second language.
Despite the challenges that my students are faced with, they come to school very eager to learn and willing to try new things. My favorite thing about my class is how my students love, accept, and celebrate each other despite their differences.
My Project
We are requesting books by Dr. Suess. Sometimes you have to think outside of the box in order to keep students engaged. During the month of March, I love utilizing Dr. Suess books to create engaging lessons with reviewing the Parts of Speech.
Who other than Dr. Suess is a great inspiration to engage and encourage students to take part of a grammar lesson.
Students choose a Dr. Suess book and are sent on a scavenger hunt to locate the different parts of speech, while enjoying book themed snacks. Students will also get the privilege to use a Cat in the Hat themed pencil to make writing enjoyable.
