This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This is a bright and active group of five and six-year-old children. They love to create and tell stories. They love to read and be read to. They are quickly learning to work together, which is a vital skill in our world. My children work in small groups and independently throughout the day. This helps them learn to focus and improve self-control issues.
We grow in all areas by practicing and playing together.
Writing throughout the day in science, social studies, math, and even in art helps us in so many ways. We get noisy, but we learn so much together. We need supplies to grow as readers, writers, and illustrators. We need to show the colors of our ideas. We need ways to be active and help us learn to control our ADHD tendencies. There is so much to learn.
My Project
Reading is a challenging skill to master. Rhyming and word family practice makes this less of a chore to learn. Dr. Seuss books are fun. They build and expand imaginations. They increase a hunger to read in our youngest readers.
Dr. Seuss books mix real-life situations with creative, fun creatures.
They take controlled amounts of sight words, change a letter or two, and teach decoding skills. Word family work becomes more fun when the family includes creatures like a Wocket or a Screetch.
Dr. Seuss books are a fun introduction to the world of reading. These books will energize my struggling readers to keep trying. They will be loved, shared, and talked about!
