My Students

I teach 3rd grade math and science in Dallas, Texas. I have wonderful classroom filled with amazing students from all over the world! At my school we have a joint vision in building the whole child academically, socially, emotionally, and mentally.

This being my first year in third grade I was amazed to see students collaborate and think creatively during recess.

It is heart-warming to see students who don't work together in the classroom regularly find each other during free play.

With this being said out of 42 students we only have on average 3 students who bring various types of balls to play with. The students who bring are always very inclusive and never turn anyone away who wants to play. However, many of these rotating balls are deteriorating and I would like to provide my students with a new variety of balls. With this donation I will continue to encourage my students to play their favorites like Jackpot, GaGa Ball, Basketball, and Soccer.

My Project

Providing my students with a variety of sports balls will in turn increase cooperative learning in our classroom. As time has gone by I have seen my students transfer collaboration from recess into an academic setting.

In such a tech heavy world with passive screen time I see how much my students appreciate team sports and imaginative play.

I would like to continue to encourage something my students already enjoy on a daily basis. My goal is to increase the accessibility of various sports balls to my students and to our grade level.

In addition to recess, I plan to incorporate the selected variety of balls into our math and science classroom to increase engagement. My partner teacher and I are committed to take our high spread student interest of sports into an academic setting.
