Down On The Farm

My students need 18 books on Farm Animals, including "Big Red Barn" and "Junie B. Jones Has a Peep In Her Pocket".

I am the librarian in an inner city, K-6 high needs school. Our school is an Expeditionary Learning (EL) school where we emphasize high achievement through active learning and teamwork. Expeditions are in-depth studies that address a topic or theme.

This year, our Kindergarten classes are doing an Expedition on farm animals. They will study farm animals in depth and align their studies with the New York State curriculum. The problem we are having is that their are hardly any books in my library about farm animals. There are 51 students in the Kindergarten classes and unfortunately, my budget for buying new books is very limited. I only receive $1,000 a year for new books and I have to buy for over 300 students.

I would like to purchase new books about farm animals for the kindergarten class to use and also to have in the library for students to check out and borrow for the week. Once the kindergarten expedition is over, the books will remain in the library for students to use for years to come. Our students just love new books with exciting covers. The books I would like to order are the type of books that my students will just love and hopefully pick up and read.

Books are necessary for the education of our children and having a library stocked full of good, up-to-date books is so important. With your help, I can begin to make our library appealing to the students by providing books that just scream to be read. Thank you so much for your consideration.
