Douglass Donuts: Building Job Readiness Skills

Help me give my students coffee, cups, and other starter items to create Douglass Donuts, a student-led coffee program to increase social emotional and job readiness skills.

My Project

This upcoming school year we have an 8th grade class that is made up of mostly students with IEP's. Their disabilities range from Specific Learning Disability to Emotional Disturbance to Other Health Impairment and everything in between. These students are moving off to high school soon and getting part time jobs shortly after.

Bring on in, Douglass Donuts.

Douglass Donuts is a business model that I have come up with to help the incoming 8th grade build on their relationship, teambuilding, and job readiness skills. They will be in charge taking and delivering orders, pricing, making drinks, keeping stock of inventory, all while working on these skills.

The items in this project are starter items. The water will be used to help make the tea and coffee. The snacks and other drinks will be be for the students after their shift or during class time, where they will be practicing the skills on a more intimate basis. As inventory dwindles, the funds raised will be used to purchase more items. At the end of the year, the profit left will be used towards their graduation dues. Not only that, but it puts them a step above other students their ages with their same disabilities.
