Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have not yet met my little kindergarteners for this upcoming school year, but I am sure they are excited to start school. Unfortunately, they will not be able to start school in the traditional way.
My district will begin the year virtually and for little ones who are brand new to being a student, this is a difficult challenge for teacher, students, and parents alike.
The neighborhood for my Title One school is one of very diverse cultures, ethnicities, and economic backgrounds. Getting to know each other in this environment is of the utmost importance because this is the year they learn that differences in one another are beautiful and valuable.
This project will provide me with a technology tool that will allow me to expand my virtual "classroom" to be able to see and interact with all the students during our live sessions. This interaction is absolutely one of the most important keys to a successful, virtual school year.
My Project
I teach the youngest, public school students. What they experience with me is their first public school educational experience. I take so much pride in providing a fun and engaging introduction to their educational journey. Due to the current pandemic, this upcoming school year has been turned upside down for all involved: students, parents and teachers, alike. We cannot begin our year face-to-face in the classroom.
Adding a second monitor to my laptop will allow me to stay engaged with all of my students during virtual live instruction.
These very young, new learners need to know that I am with them every step of the way. Showing them each step of a lesson on my laptop means that I can no longer see all of their faces and if they are staying engaged.
A second monitor attached to my laptop will allow me to show them step by step instructions, share engaging videos, etc., all while being able to watch their expressions, see who has a question, remind them to stay focused, and more, just as I would do if we were face-to-face in the classroom. This absolutely will not be as wonderful as being in the classroom together, but I honestly think it will allow us to feel more like a community/family. They will feel how much I care about them if I can see them and interact with them immediately.
