Doritos, Doritos - Help Make Our Literacy Night Neat-O
Help me give my students and families a family reading night that includes making supper together by following a recipe to make walking tacos (with the Doritos) and then enjoying a family reading night together at our school.
Motivating children every day is a theme for our school. We are a Title I school and all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. We are continually making strides to meet each student's needs.
Our students are curious and creative learners.
They are excited to participate in projects and show pride in their work. They enjoy hearing stories read aloud to them, as well as hearing about places they have never visited. Their interests involve sports, video gaming, animals, fashion, and drawing.
My Project
Our school will host a family reading night so that families can come together to be involved in literacy-building activities at school. Our goal is that families join together in activities that build stronger positive relationships as well as help foster a love of reading among families.
Having the ability to offer a literacy activity that involves making a meal with their family gives parents an opportunity to see how reading with their child can take place daily in everyday situations.
Families will participate in following a recipe to make a walking taco starting with a bag of Doritos. The first few steps of the recipe will involve Doritos. The steps include opening the Doritos, rolling down the top part of the bag, crushing the Doritos in the bag and then adding meat to the bag and mixing the ingredients. Having supper involved in our literacy night is an added help to our parents since we are a Title I school. After this meal, families will continue to participate in literacy centered activities. We strive to build partnerships with parents as we work together to help their children succeed in all areas.
