My Students
Our school has a long history embedded in the community we serve. Students are excited to attend a school where many of their parents and even grandparents went before them. I have an exciting opportunity to continue building a STEAM Resource program as we enter year 2! When you walk into my classroom you won't see students sitting in desks diligently taking notes, instead, you'll see students brainstorming ideas, drawing images, building models, testing their solution, and more! I work with all the students in my building, kindergarten through fifth grade.
My students are spunky, inquisitive, and hardworking.
"I never knew school could be this fun!" a student shouted to a group member as they were working on a STEAM project. It is moments like these that push me to ensure that my students always have opportunities for hands-on, real-life learning experiences. My students are not defined by their labels, such as gifted, ADHD, ADD, or on grade-level, but instead, they step into my classroom to show off their talents and expand their imagination. It is wonderful donors, like yourself, that can help me to provide these experiences to our youngest learners!
My Project
One of my students' favorite technology tools in my STEAM classroom is our 3Doodler pens. These pens allow students to turn their 2-dimensional plans into 3-dimensional works of art. However, with large class sizes, we often run out of pens for each student and filament to print with. Because this tool is one of their favorites, I often use them in a variety of ways.
With the upcoming election, I plan on using the concept of 3D-printing to get students engaged in learning more about civics.
However, with the Covid-19 pandemic, it is vital that I provide safe-sanitation practices for these tools. In order to provide this, it is essential that I have at least one pen per student because they cannot share supplies. By receiving another kit of pens and filament, we will be able to practice safe Covid-19 learning practices, while also engaging in learning about civics in a hands-on approach. Students will be printing "stickers" to show that they have voted after we hold mock elections. We will also discuss what it means to vote and how it impacts our community whether we're voting in a local, state, or federal election.
