My Project
I am a teacher/librarian at an elementary school that services many Navy and Army families in Hawaii. The library is the center of encouraging literacy on our Preschool-6th grade campus. About half of the students at my school are military dependents who move locations every three years. In recent years, I have implemented a school Makerspace where students are invited to create using critical thinking and self directed learning skills.
3D printing and drawing has transformed my school Makerspace as it allows students to design, experiment, and collaborate with each other using STEM tools.
My students have been experimenting with one 3D pen during recess time and after school in my Makerspace. They have designed some excellent inventions and art pieces to showcase their creativity. Completed objects are shared in a display case which motivates other students to design their own pieces. I'd like to offer more pens to my students and use the challenge cards to create artwork and models. This learning pack will enhance their experiences in my Makerspace and encourage them to explore careers in engineering, architecture, and 3D design modeling.
Half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
