I teach World History, Civics and Economics and Western Civilization to grades 9-12. I teach in a community with a large number of students who come from needy homes. A substantial number of my students do not have computers at home. In order to prepare them for work, college and most importantly the 21st century, they must to be exposed to as much technology as possible at school.

Watch the cords! Step over the Internet cable! Don't trip! These are phrases often heard in my classroom. Every time I need to use the projector and Internet, I have to stretch the cord approximately 20 feet across the room. The Projector sits on a low table elevated by Cd's .... the picture slightly distorted. Needless to say, this is not the safest situation.

I am asking for a wireless router to connect my laptop to the network. This router will eliminate the need for an Internet cable and create a safer classroom environment. I am also asking for a laptop/projector cart so that I can get rid of the tangle of cords at the front of the room. This will also allow the projector to sit at the proper height and prevent distortion.

I encourage all of my students to pursue a higher education and believe that a knowledge of national and world events is vital in academic success. I use news clips, video clips and various web sites to introduce and teach students about the world around them. I also believe that the best type of learning is by inquiry. When students are working on projects or in cooperative groups, the addition of a second computer with Internet access to use for research will help them to be better prepared for college and the future. If you fund this project, you will be making my classroom a safer place, helping extend the use of technology and giving my students a larger window to the world.
