My Students

I teach Kindergarten through 3rd grade students with multiple exceptionalities, such as cerebral palsy, blindness, sensory processing disorder, developmental delays, and speech disorders. The majority of my students are non-verbal and non-ambulatory. They also are among the kindest, friendliest, most cheerful and capable individuals on our campus!

My students amaze me every day with their ability to learn and make connections despite the many obstacles they face.

With the right tools, adaptations, and supports, they become engaged and active learners. My exceptional learners deserve to have access to quality curriculum just like their peers.

My Project

I strive to provide a sensory-rich classroom environment for my exceptional students as they learn best through a multi-sensory approach and have many sensory needs that must be met before learning can even happen. Many of my students have sensory processing issues and are often hypo-sensitive, causing them to seek out more sensory stimulation, like movement, spinning, swinging, jumping, tight hugs, tactile objects, and auditory input.

The Lycra Snuggle Therapy Swing would provide the proprioceptive and vestibular sensory input that my students frequently seek.

In addition, the Rub-R-String balls, Gel-Bead Sensory Shapes, Stretchy String Fidgets, and Rapper Snappers would serve to satisfy my students tactile, visual, auditory, and oral sensory needs. By donating to this project you will be helping me create sensory diets for my exceptional students that will allow them to better self-regulate their emotions and behavior so they can stay focused and engaged in class.
