My Project
My elementary school (1st-4th) is in dire need of a book repair machine! We are a low-income school in the south suburbs of Chicago, and the library receives a minimal budget each year. I try to purchase the most popular books so that my students will enjoy reading and love their time in the library. However, therein lies the problem - the most popular books get checked out and read the most often, leading to a great amount of wear and tear. The biggest issue is when the binding of the spine fails, as I have no way to repair that. A thermal book binding machine would allow me fix those damaged books instead of having to recycle the broken ones and then repurchase them new.
I want my students to have a wide variety of books to choose from, but if every year I am simply replacing the old broken ones, their reading options will be severely limited.
I want to buy them the latest releases, expose them to classics, and allow them to judge each year's award winners for themselves. Having a machine available to repair damaged books will allow me to purchase new and exciting books that will expand my students' reading horizons. Please help me continue to foster my students' love of reading by being able to have their well-read favorites as well as fresh choices accessible to them.
