Don't Lose Focus...Just Adjust the Lens.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from low-income high poverty homes and attend our campus, a Title I school. They're an enthusiastic bunch with a lot of school spirit and are willing to give their all to make the school a better place!

The students have a lot of school spirit, and this much is evident in the various school events we do, such as our annual (albeit crazy) Senior Video, Senior Grad Night, dances, pep rallies, and everything in between.

We also have extensive opportunities to engage with real world technology, primarily that in the broadcast video medium.

My Project

When we were young, we used to get lost in the majesty and wonder of film. Ideas that have come to fruition include that of a boy befriending an extra-terrestrial, an archeologist that solves the mysteries of the world, or the powerful story of a man risking his life to help victims of the Holocaust. Now, you may wonder, why did I choose the movies of Steven Spielberg as the inspiration for this project? I chose him because much like the students we have in our classes, he saw his vision through and put the CGI, bells, and whistles on the proverbial back burner as a way to tell his stories. I am asking for professional video equipment a high powered camera, its accompanying microphone, and a carrying case for said camera. These items will be utilized to their fullest potential and show students the power they have in bringing their ideas to life, from shooting video in a gorgeous high frame rate, to shooting their video in slow motion at a very high frame rate. Students remark how much their projects look like a "real movie."

There is nothing better than watching students take pride in their own creations, whether it be for a project, the student body, or their own amusement, there is sheer joy in the power of creation!

They also enjoy watching some of their classmates remark on how funny/ high quality a video is. Bringing ideas to life is the reason why film lives. Whether it’s bringing awareness to an important issue or making people laugh, students have an immense power to bring their ideas to life. We would love this professional equipment to help students realize their power of creativity so hopefully we can create the Spielbergs of a new generation!
