Help me give my students stories to develop their inner beauty. Each of these stories will help teach my students important qualities like responsibility, kindness, and respectfulness.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from very diverse backgrounds, representing many cultures. Our families are considered high-poverty so it's difficult to ask families for extra materials needed for our students in our classrooms. Most families are very supportive and enjoy participating in the after school activities we offer.
Our school supplies are often lacking, so I often spend a lot of my own personal money on classroom materials because I don't want my students to be without the necessary materials to keep them organized and prepared for school.
My Project
Reading aloud to my students is one of my favorite times of the day. Watching the students react positively to the stories I select and read is so rewarding. Having the students discuss and respond to meaningful questions empowers their personal learning and comprehension of difficult and abstract topics.
Literature is great way to teach life lessons to children.
I can teach the students the basic components of books or stories. In addition, I can also teach the students about more abstract topics such as conflict and resolution, a character's mood and how it changes, and kindness and compassion.
Adding these books to my read aloud time with my students would be so impactful as I try to have them dig deeper into the stories and their emotions, beyond just reading the words.
