My students need 40 blank books for each child in pre-K to make two of their own stories.

"For the last few years, I have been teaching writing to young children ages three to five years old. At first, I thought this was going to be difficult and that the children might find it overwhelming. I was wrong! The first few months are hard for them and for me but they really take off after that.
Our school is a large, urban school in New York City. This year our school will be designated a school where 100% of the children will receive free lunch. Our community is struggling and so are our teachers. Our budget has been cut and we are eager to give our children the best possible education. Maybe you would like to help us with one of our activities.
One of the first projects we begin early in the year is to have each child write their own book. This activity takes several months but at the end they have a hardcover book they can be proud of. These books will be cherished for many years to come by the children and their parents.
Each child will create two of their very own storybooks. I have been doing this for several years now and it has always been a fantastic learning experience. My pre-k class of 2008-9 has fortunate enough to be given a grant of blank books and it was a huge success. Each child will design a cover and come up with a simple story line. They will also illustrate the stories. These books come out better than published picture books from the library-Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover!
I absolutely love to see the joy and sense of accomplishment when they complete a piece of writing. We even have publishing parties with iced tea and cookies. We all enjoy hearing their stories.
I am asking for enough blank books so that each child can make two. The books are sold at Lakeshore Learning in a package of ten, and I will need four packs. Please pick us, we can't wait to start writing!
