This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students from Abilene, Texas are apart of our bilingual program. We get to teach our kiddos English, all while allowing them to comfortably speak in their native language also!

My students make me a better person.

My students come from very low income families and in some situations, don't even have sufficient funds to get new clothes or shoes. Seeing their faces light up in my class because they are at school makes me so happy to have them apart of my life. Everyday I wake up thankful that I get to do what I love which is teaching my kiddos my two favorite subjects, Math and ELA!

My Project

I'm a third year teacher and this is my second year teaching Fourth Grade. Every book I have in my classroom has been graciously passed down to me from other teachers in my school. Needless to say, I am forever grateful for all the support and help I have received and continue to receive from my co-worker family. We read, "Tales of Fourth Grade Nothing" the very first week of school. We always have to order it through our library and combine all the copies from our districts libraries and sometimes we get several versions of the book, pages are missing, or there's not enough for each of them to have their own copy to follow along with.

I would love to see the look on my students faces as they get to open up a brand new book first thing at the very beginning of the year!

I am 110% positive that would be an awesome kick start to the year.

The next most exciting part of the year is right before winter break. The whole month of December I try to make it as much fun as possible because we are a STAAR grade, which means after winter break we come back to school ready for test prep. During this time we do a unit over Realist Fiction and "Superfudge" is the perfect novel to read with the students. They always fall in love with Fudge's character in "Tales of Fourth Grade Nothing" so telling the kids we will be reading the sequel always pumps them up before we even get started! There's nothing a teacher loves more than seeing their students get excited for reading!
