Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students get so excited when new things are being introduced to them! They are also excited to learn about what is changing in the world. My students have been learning tons in language arts and math, but I would like to expose them to some great art lessons. Papier Mache was taught to me when I was young and I would like to teach it to my students.
My students come from low income, socioeconomic homes, but when giving opportunities to get their hands on something they have never experienced or learned before, they get so excited and it re-lights a flame that makes them interested in school.
These students are bright and smile a lot when they are engaged in discovering new things.
Giving students a project working with their hands will reinforce learning and high-level thinking skills.
My Project
Papier mache is a composite of materials consisting of paper pieces, textiles, and glue. This is such a fun hands-on project that gives students a break from language arts, math, and video games. It really helps the visual learners and hands-on builders in their learning when they are able to create a 3D project from scratch.
It is important that I create the kind of learning environment in my classroom that leads to student achievement.
Art experiences are important to form me to expose my students too. This art experience will make connections for my students in math and science, as well.
