This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I know the look immediately when I see it. That wide-eyed, oh my goodness, panicked face…the moment a teen starts her period at school–during class! These moments cause stress, anxiety, and embarrassment; and, impede learning because this need requires urgent attention. All girls go through period woes in high school. Many are learning how to manage and prepare for their cycle (menstrual education), while others lack access to supplies that meet their needs (period poverty). Recently, I had a student who needed to go home and change because they began their cycle, did not have any supplies, and bled through their underwear and pants. Having supplies on hand will help me change the course of a young lady’s day. My goal is to provide access to sanitary products like pads, tampons, emergency underwear, and heat patches by stocking a period cabinet.
With these period kits, your donation will help promote menstrual justice and curb period poverty.
Each item I am requesting was planned with intentionality. I requested different types of sanitary supplies to meet students' personal, familial, and religious preferences. Additionally, I requested different emergency underwear to meet everybody's shape and size. The last thing a girl on her period needs is to worry about the fit of an emergency undergarment. The heart-shaped stick-on heating pads will provide both physical and emotional pain relief. And, I’m sure my students will love the menstruation crustation crab. I plan to use this cute weighted, heating plushy as a subtle way for young ladies to request sanitary supplies in class discreetly. With your support, my girls will be able to focus on learning instead of whether or not they will be able to take care of their most intimate needs. Your donation will provide priceless peace of mind that their period is covered!
