My Project
We got a tabletop convection toaster oven in a previous project, and we will be using that oven to make flavored salt with the herbs from our garden. We will be making basil salt and rosemary salt using the food processor, salt and metal trays. We can always experiment using other herbs and vegetables if we have salt left over. Each student will be able to take home salt to share with their families in the 2 ounce ramekins. They are always so excited to be able to take home what we make and grow in school.
Being able to make something with your hands is always awesome, but being able to make something with food that we grow is even better!
This gives my students a feeling of accomplishment as well as pride in what we do in class. Doing something as simple as picking herbs, mixing it with salt and drying it in the oven brings a feeling of gratification and self-sufficiency that my students can begin to harbor now for their adult futures.
