Help me give my students the appropriate keyboarding resources needed to present their work samples with confidence and pride.

My Project

My school is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Music) that requires special projects and activities all year long by school leadership. As a first year keyboarding teacher, one desperately desires to have appropriate resources to make my class run more efficient and productive. Due to major school budget cuts, I need a color laser jet printer to be able to print out student work samples as required by all teachers for meetings. Additionally, I would like to have laminating pouches to protect work that is often touched and dismantled by students in the main hallways of the building. Lastly, purchasing headphones will help address a large population of students who struggle with focus and concentration issues. Using headphones in my keyboarding class will improve the learning environment for not only students with disabilities, but auditory learners such as students with Autism, or students with ADHD as well. Headphones will help cancel out internal distractions within the classroom that tends to make students become off task.

The goal of this project is to acquire keyboarding resources that allow student work samples to be presented to the public in a manner that promotes creativity and professionalism.

My students are very unique in that initially at the beginning of school they were somewhat reluctant to take a keyboarding class. However now, they recognize that taking keyboarding can be helpful in other ways as well. For example, the majority of students are very familiar with video games and why speed and accuracy is important to score a win. The intent of the class is not to make students better video game players, but rather to improve their digital literacy and communication skills. However, if keyboarding inadvertently helps this generation of students in other areas, I personally consider learning keyboarding as a benefit.
