This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students can't learn if they aren't in school. When a child has been the victim of a bully at school, they will tell their parents anything to get to stay home. Fifth Grade is a critical year for teaching students how to stand up for themselves without becoming bullies.
My students are eager learners who often struggle in spite of their best efforts.
At home they face lack of educational materials and technology, and at school we do not have enough computers to meet the students' needs. My students are kind-hearted, but when faced with social challenges, they can tend to deal with problems in negative ways. I have addressed the issue of bullying with my students, but it is a topic that we must revisit regularly.
My Project
This laptop computer and "Bullying in Schools" book will reinforce the anti-bullying message for my students. My students will use this laptop computer to work together in cooperative groups to create anti-bullying presentations. Working together will help teach my students that they are a team, and they must support their teammates with encouragement not put-downs. The presentations they will create will enable them to teach each other about strategies to avoid bullies, and behaviors to avoid being a bully. These student-created lessons will positively impact my students as they go to middle school next year and throughout the future.
By supporting this project, you are offering my students an opportunity to experience technology that they do not currently have access to, in order to learn and share an anti-bullying message and cooperative attitude!
