My Students

I am a special education teacher in a Title I School District. What does this mean? Just about 95% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches. Most of the students have seen more in their short years of life than most people will experience in a lifetime.

Despite the difficulties these children face on a daily basis, they are resilient.

These kids are some of the most hard-working, determined children I have ever met.

My Project

Our school is creating a positive caring school environment that will help students learn positive social skills. We are doing that with the help of introducing Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Our students will earn Class Dojo points for making the right decisions, showing positive peer interactions, following the school rules, wearing uniforms, and doing the right thing. Our goal is to help support our students to be scholars with wonderful social skills that can handle any situation that arises. We want them to know how to collaborate in a group, how to be a good friend, and most importantly be a great person. So through PBIS we will reward students for their choices and they will be able to shop in our OWL Barn to select prizes. All the erasers, games, pencils, scratch art and every other item in the cart will make sure that our Owl Barn stays fully stocked to encourage students to always do the right thing!
