Doing the Dishes in Kindergarten

My students need a new sturdy, wooden play sink and hutch for our dramatic play area.

My Students

I have been teaching kindergarten for 26 years in a great school, which is located in a high poverty community. Despite the often sad circumstances my students face, they are beating the odds everyday. My students are bright, friendly, and extremely eager to learn new things. They love to explore and learn through play and hands-on experiences, which is the way it should be for a group of 5 and 6-year-olds.

With the current trend being all about test scores and less about letting kids be kids, I feel it is my duty to make learning as meaningful and engaging as I can for my students, while also making it fun!

My Project

One of my students' favorite play areas in my 5K classroom is the Home/Dramatic Play Center. The kids love to pretend they are a family making and eating supper, taking care of the kids, or going to a restaurant. We were fortunate to have received a very nice, play stove and refrigerator this year with generous donations through DonorsChoose. My sweet students have really enjoyed playing with these new items and we so appreciate the people who have given generously.

We would love to complete our kitchen set of play appliances with a sink and hutch/microwave so that we can practice washing the dishes and putting them away in the cupboard.

It would really make our House Center complete.
