I work in a preschool in a full day program where we open at 7:00 and close at 5:00. All of my students qualify for free meals at school and we provide them with breakfast, lunch, snack and supper. My students range in ages from 2 ½ - 5 years old. We offer the first school experience to 24 young learners.
Most of my students comes from low-income families.
Some of my students live in a house, apartment, or with a relatives and some are homeless.
My students are eager and excited to learn new things and make new discoveries. My students’ minds are growing and making new connections every day. I know when I come to work every day it is a new adventure for my students. I can’t wait to see what they will accomplish next.
My Project
The majority of the students that I work with are from a low-income community. Our school is list as one of the school that has the most homeless families. As my students arrive into my classroom, I greet them every morning with a warm welcome. As I welcome my students in the morning, some of them would give me a hug. I love my students very much so of course when they hug me I always hug them back. I noticed some of my students come to school with unclean clothes and the lack of hygiene.
I think it is very important to keep my students safe and clean.
Each day my students take at least a 2 hour nap. Some of them bring their own blanket from home to use during nap, but not everyone have a blanket to use. My students take their blankets home every Fridays to wash. However, I am responsible for washing the sheets from the cots and some of the blankets from students that does not have a home or a washing machine. As their teacher, I would like to provide my students a clean environment for them to learn. I am requesting laundry detergent, fabric softeners, Kleenex, hand sanitize, disinfect wipes and some basic school supplies along with some clean clothes for school.
